integrated calendar system
Calendars
An integrated calendar system that allows a high degree of personalization is one of the strengths of k12pages.
Master Calendars
Each district has a master calendar whose contents will permeate every single calendar and reservation system connected to that district, including personal calendars. This would include district-wide events that impact all aspects of education, such as holidays, inservice days, and the start and end dates of school. A district-wide master calendar eliminates tremendous double-entry which in turn eliminates erroneous or conflicting information.
Each school also has a master calendar whose contents permeates all calendars connected to that school. As with the district master calendar, the school master calendar included school-wide events that impact all levels of education. Examples at the school level might include parent-teacher conferences, standardized test dates, and "no school" days that differ from the other schools.
Events Calendars
Every school and the district has its own "events calendar" that is meant to highlight the major events on the schedule. This would include athletic events, drama and musical events, testing dates, fund raising or social events, important deadlines, and anything else that the school or district wishes to highlight. Anything posted on the events calendar will in turn be displayed on the home page for that building. The events calendar is also automatically applied to all student and parent personal calendars and is part of the daily email home to parents. If you want to get a message across to the masses, the events calendar is the way to do that.

Organizational Calendars - Activities, Athletics, Classrooms, Committees
Every activity, athletic team, classroom, and committees has its own calendar to post related information. Classroom calendars are special in that class assignments are automatically entered into the calendar. Any parent or student tracking a class will have that calendar automatically applied to their personal calendar and that information will be included in the daily email home to parents. Parents, students and staff can also subscribe to any other organizational calendar and have that information consolidated where they want it.
Staff Only Calendars
Display calendars in the staff area that are for staff eyes only. This includes two different types of calendars.
- "All Read / All Write" calendars allow all staff to see and post to a specific calendar. An example of this would be the "Friday Treats" calendar where staff might sign up to bring something to share amongst the staff.
- "All Read / Select Write" calendars update staff on important information while maintaining security by allowing only a select group of people access to posting. Examples might include "Principal's Whereabouts" and "Master Field Trip Schedule".
Collaborative Calendars - Personal and Public
Staff can create collaborative calendars that can be either public or private. The creator of a collaborative calendar selects the participants and a link to that calendar will automatically appear on each members navigation bar.
Personal Calendars
Each student and parent has a personal calendar and staff may choose to create a personal calendar. The personal calendar is the place where each user will consolidate the information that matters to them. Automatic color coding helps distinguish and categorize the entries.

Permissions - Reduce Double Entry
Some events, such as large athletic events or committee meetings, should be posted on both the organization's calendar and the events calendar. By granting permissions to specific calendars, staff can create posts that are cloned to other calendars, thus eliminating double entry and opportunities to communicate conflicting information.
Powerful Posting Engine
Features include single or multiple day posts, reoccurring posts that may or may not occur on "no-school" days, start and end times, posting to multiple calendars simultaneously, and the powerful WYSIWYG editor.
Viewing Calendar Entries
Each post to a calendar is represented by a short title and a link to the post description. Post descriptions are created using the powerful WYSIWYG editor and contain important information including the time of the post and the author's name and email link.
