H1N1 Flu Update - posted Sep 14, 2009 11:53 AM - archived Sep 25, 2009

I want to share a brief Dryden update regarding H1N1 and recommended guidelines to consider when deciding to send a daughter or son to school when they have a cold.

We are closely monitoring the number of parents who keep students home due to flu-like symptoms. If your son or daughter is kept home due to flu-like symptoms, please be sure to let us know when you call to excuse the absence.

Since parents have asked if they should keep students home if they have the "sniffles" or similar cold associated symptoms that could be the beginning of a flu bug, I am making available a pdf for downloading, "Sick Day Guidelines: Making the Right Call When Your Child Has a Cold" for parents to reference.

Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions or suggestions. Stay healthy!

Tom Milliron

Alaskan & Proud's Student of the Week - posted Feb 10, 2009 04:15 PM - archived Feb 20, 2009

kahlil
Congratulations to Floyd Dryden "Student of the Week"
Kahlil English of the 7th Grade, son of Brenda and
Trenton English. Kahlil's Advisory teacher is Ms.
Kathleen Galau. Kahlil says, "the activities I enjoy
are drawing, calligraphy, English and Japanese,
Ballroom dancing and writing. My favorite subject
is language arts because I can express myself."
Kahlil's favorite book is Eragon, by Christopher
Paolini. What Kahlil likes most about Floyd Dryden
is "the school is close to home and teachers are
nice and encouraging." Kahlil is nominated by
Pat McLear, the Librarian at Floyd Dryden. "Kahlil
expressed an interest in learning Japanese and
made arrangements with our principal, Mr. Tom
Milliron, to take an independent study on the
language and culture of Japan. Kahlil worked daily
in the Dryden Library and completed his investigation
at the end of the semester, and produced an
excellent Power Point presentation on his topic.
I was very impressed with his self initiative,
dedication and hard work", Mclear said.
