BOYS BASKETBALL GOING TO SITKA! - posted Nov 03, 2010 07:15 PM - archived Nov 17, 2010

Noveber 18th the FDMS boys basketball team, along with the FDMS girls basketball team, will be travelling to Sitka to compete over several days.  Players need to be at the ferry terminal at 6:30 AM on the morning of Thursday, November 18th.  We'll be staying in Sitka until Sunday morning, so players should pack accordingly.  We will be playing as many games as possible while in Sitka and will return on Sunday the 21st by the fast ferry, most likely arriving around 6 PM to the Auke Bay ferry terminal.

In order to participate players need to be in good academic standing, have no outstanding discipline issues, and be present at the Auke Bay terminal at the assigned time.  Ferry tickets will be provided by the FDMS boys basketball program.  To help fund the trip, players are conducting a fundraising drive to solicit local businesses to participate in our banner program.  Parent support in this endeavor is hugely appreciated. 

As the trip approaches, we will be sending home a parent letter and a list of things the players should bring.  We will be housed in the gymnasium at Sitka so players should plan on bringing toiletries, a sleeping bag, and several changes of clothes.  Additionally, our Sitka hosts are throwing a pajama party during our stay there, so players should consider bringing appropriate pajamas to wear to this event.   

More information will be either sent home with students or posted here as more details of the trip are finalized.  Thanks for your support of the FDMS boys basketball program and for your hard work ensuring the success of our student athletes!

We are in desperate need of adults who can work the FDMS scorebench for the FDMS games every Thursday afternoon. We can train you! Need someone to run the clock/timer and someone who can keep paper book. We can train. There are three games with the first game starting at 3:30 pm sharp. We can pay a small stipend for the work. If interested please contact the assistant principal as soon as possible.

The boys basketball season is underway. Games are scheduled for Thursday afternoon throughout the month of November except for November 26, 2009. This is a Thanksgiving Holiday and no games are scheduled. Please check the basketball event calendar for any changes. All games have been scheduled for the month. The boys and girls alternate at the FDMS gym and DHMS gym. Please double check the calendar to check if the girls or boys are playing at FDMS. The game order for the games at FDMS are: A,B,C and at the DHMS gym the order is C,B,A.

Fundraising is due November 19th.  The Shoot-a-Thon will be held at practice on November 21st.

Check the basketball calendar for important information regarding sports physicals for participation.  Physicals will need to be on file with the nurse in order to participate in interscholastic basketball.
