Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your daughter has expressed an interest in playing interscholastic basketball for Floyd Dryden.  Tryouts for the girl’s basketball team begin Wednesday, October 22nd.  I am writing you this letter to let you know some of the criteria that are taken into account when selecting the basketball team.  As an interscholastic activity, the student-athletes are held to certain standards and guidelines as established by the school board, administration, and coaching staff.  The Floyd Dryden basketball team exists in a competitive environment where “cuts” are used to select the youngsters that will represent herself, her family, school, program, and community in a positive manner.  Last year when I served as an assistant coach for the Dryden girl’s team cuts were not necessary as our turn out numbers were low enough to not warrant the need for cuts.  However this year it is not the case with over 50 student athletes trying out for 30 roster spots.  Unfortunately cuts will have to be made.  A combination of academic performance, athletic ability, attitude, behavior, teacher comments, etc. will be used to select this year’s ball club.  For those individuals that make the team, there will be some forms for you to fill out, such as; physical clearance for participation and consent to treat. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Kenneth Brown
Head Basketball Coach
